About Frank Steven (Steve) Walters, 61, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 2, 2015 surrounded by his loving wife and daughters after a courageous battle with cancer. He lived his 61 years on this earth to the fullest. After his retirement from Virginia Tech in 2010, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and burning up the road on his Harley. Steve was born in Christiansburg, Va. on December 3, 1953 to Frank Elbert and Lottie C. Walters. He graduated a proud Blacksburg Indian in 1973, and soon began a long career of 37 years at Virginia Tech. He met the love of his life, Carol Tickle Walters, in 1979. They soon married and began a family.Steve will be missed dearly by his devoted wife, Carol; adoring daughters, Kelli and Traci; loving mother, Lottie C. Walters; brother and hunting pal, Buddy Cook (Patsy); and supportive sisters, Shirley Hylton (Jerry), Sandra Smith (Frank), Kathy Dowdy (Mike), and Carol Early (Wayne); father-in-law, Ralph Tickle; brother-in-law, Dennis Tickle; many cherished friends, and special companions, Max and Tora, and is preceded in death by his father, Frank Elbert Walters.Visitation was held Wednesday, February 4, 2015 from Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski where the family did receive friends from 5 tp 7 p.m. and funeral services will be held at Thornspring United Methodist Church, Pulaski Va. on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Teresa Tolbert officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.Flowers are appreciated; however, we ask memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road Suite 106A Roanoke VA, 24018 or Thornspring United Methodist Church, 5670 Thornspring Church Road Dublin, VA 24084.The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the loving care given by Dr. Harry McCoy and the staff of Blue Ridge Cancer Care, the compassionate staff and nurses on second floor at Lewis Gale Montgomery Regional Hospital, and Southern Care Hospice.Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski.
