Class of 1964

Not sure this qualifies? This all started for me way before Highschool. I became very interested with cars and Drag Racing! I loved the noise, the smoke and the cars themselves. I had gone to my 1st drag race back in 57 and thought just watching these cars was a hoot! As time went on and I got older I started following this automotive sport by reading all the days magazines and newspapers on the subject! Once out of the navy I coud go to Byron Dragway or other close dragstrips each weekend and get my fill of it so to speak, and i even raced my 67 and 69 Chevelles but when I wasn't going down the track I'd be over at the fence doing something else I truly loved which was to shoot photography of these cars! Once thing led to another and I became the track photographer over there at Byron Dragway, then from that went on to be the Official NHRA Division Three Photographer and took that position in 1970 and held it for 26 years, going to races all over the country within in my Division or outside my own Division, it really didn't matter as long as I was at the drags! I eventually moved from Rockford to Indianapolis where I started to go on the NHRA Major Event tour each year and doing more and more car magazine work as well along the way, shooting drag races and doing car features on cars! Eventually I attained my goal of working full time for the NHRA and reached the position of Senior Photographer for the company and their house organ called, "National Dragster" then a newspaper type weekly publication, now more of a magazine type style and size! The recent economy had the NHRA let me go from my full time position and now semi-retired I still go to about 8/10 races a year to shoot and I still do car features for "Drag Racing Action" magazine and I have a full page column in that publication called "Remember When" and this magazine is bymonthly and can be gotton on the newsstands! I have spent nearly 50 years of my life in the Drag Racing business, not bad for a guy who wasn't sure how long I'd stay in this business nor how long it Drag racing itself might last? I'm on the net and folders of photography there, both drag racing and my persoanl work as well! Some BHS Alums drop by and view my work everyonce in awhile, which has been nice! Richard Brady
