Graduation Year Class of 1967
Date of Passing Jul 03, 2016
About Dan Sanchez was born September 17, 1947, to Janie and Inosente Sanchez in Bay City, Texas. He left this earth Sunday, July 3, 2016, at Houston Hospice with his wife and loved ones surrounding him. Dan attended the Bay City schools, graduating from Bay City High School in 1967. Following graduation, he attended Wharton County Junior College where he earned an associate degree prior to enrolling and graduating from Sam Houston State University in 1974. Dan proved his work ethic and determination by graduating from college without any college loan debt. He worked his way through college by working a semester and then going to school a semester.
Dan started his teaching career in the Brownsville Independent School District before moving to Alvin. In Alvin, he was a teacher/coach at Alvin Junior High and transferred to Harby Junior High when it opened. He retired in 2007, after 33 years in education. Dan worked at the Thelma Ley Anderson YMCA for several years after retirement and only left the Y due to his health issues. Dan made a new group of friends at the Y as he guided folks through the use of the various machines in the fitness area. He loved both his public school and Y roles and took great pleasure in serving others in these roles.
Dan lived his life for his wife and children. He was always the supportive husband and father. His children saw him truly exemplify being a partner in a marriage in that he did his fair share of laundry and cooking. He loved being a home owner and watching his various fruit tree crops.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Janie and Inosente Sanchez; and his in-laws, Josphine and Santana Nafegar, as well as his younger brother, Domingo Sanchez.
He is survived by his wife, Bel Sanchez; his sons, Chris Sanchez (Karen) and Michael; and two grandsons, Calvin and Bradley. Also surviving him are his two brothers, Damacio and David; and his sister Delia.
Dan has donated his body to science; therefore, there will be no funeral. A memorial service will take place Friday, July 8, at South Park Baptist Church, 1718 S. Johnson St., in Alvin. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with the service following at 11:00 a.m.
