James Arden Daniel was born the third child of Arthur Gordon Daniel and Amy Muriel Renfrow on September 12, 1926 in Beaver, Beaver County, Oklahoma. The family moved to Perryton, Texas when he was 2. Jim graduated from Perryton High School in 1944 where he excelled in sports. He was named All-District Offensive Guard for the Perryton Rangers football team during his senior year.

After graduation, Jim enlisted in the Navy and served during World War ll before being honorably discharged in 1947. In 1947, he began working at Chance Vought Aircraft Company in Fort Worth and attending North Texas State College in Denton where he graduated in 1953. Jim began his teaching and coaching career in McAllen in 1954. He met his future wife, Maxine Eubanks, in 1955 and they were married on June 2, 1956 in Austin. They have celebrated 61 years of faithful marriage.

Jim and Maxine moved to Bay City in 1959. Jim had a long and varied career as a teacher and coach – 27 years in the Bay City Independent School District. He served as a coach and taught P.E. at Bay City Junior High before transitioning to teach P.E. at Tenie Holmes Elementary School. He later ended his career teaching Distributive Education at Bay City High School. Most of his students remembered him fondly as Coach Daniel, even after they graduated to adulthood. Jim was passionate about golf. In his spare time he loved to play with family and friends.

Jim and Maxine spent the first 25 years of retirement in Scottsdale, Arizona before moving to Belton in 2013. Jim was always active in church and was ordained a deacon at First Baptist Church, Bay City. As a child of the depression, he had a heart to serve children with physical, mental, or emotional challenges. He was always beloved as an encourager to his friends and students.

To say that Jim loved his family would be an understatement. He constantly and consistently demonstrated the love of Jesus in the ways he cared for Maxine, his children, and his grandchildren. He was always there for them, nurturing and supporting them as he took the time to encourage and be a part of their lives. One of his favorite joys was the birth of a new member of his family. He always cherished being able to hold and rock his grandbabies and great grandbabies.

Jim is survived by his wife, Maxine Daniel, of Belton; daughter Vicki McClain and husband, John, of Little River; son Jimmy Daniel and wife, Sue, of Midland; grandchildren: Jonathan Daniel and wife, Molly, of Houston; Amanda Daniel of Billings, Montana; Kelli Tucker and husband, Brett, of Hillsboro; two great-grandchildren: Piper Daniel and Phelan Daniel both of Houston; sister, Annabelle Nelson, of Denver, Colorado; sister-in-law, Francis Daniel (wife of brother Orrel) of Denver, Colorado; brother-in-law, Charles Eubanks and wife, Dorthy, of McKinney; and, sister-in-law, Linda Faulk, and husband, John, of Austin.
