In 1954 BCC was in the 'Six-A' conference battling the likes of Grand Rapids Eastern, Sexton and Ann Arbor Pioneer for the league title. Ann Arbor came to town in the fifth game of the season riding a three year 28 game win streak. The Powerful Pioneers were State Champions and Battle Creek Central was undefeated through four games. The table was set for a gladiator battle that would go down in history as one of the greatest games in BCC lore. Centrals defense was like a fortress, frustrating the Pioneers vaunted air and ground attack. Battle Creek had no answer though, as they were stymied time and time again inside enemy territory. The game ended in a 0-0 tie! Central and Pioneer went undefeated that season and tied for the conference title. The clash of the Titans was a stand off. Everyone left that game with respect and appreciation for each other and the evolving game of American football.
