Ruby Alfred

Class of 1963

Ruby's life-long dream was to be a teacher. She began to attain this dream by attending Cheyney University,immediately after Bartram, and graduated in three years. She first taught at Hatch Junior High School in New Jersey, after doing her student teaching in......BARTRAM!!

Ruby then taught at the Pennsylvania Advancement School in which the "open classroom concept" had been newly introduced. She subsequently taught for 13 years at the college that she had attended, Cheyney University. She went on to teach at West Chester University for 11 years and Temple Univerity for 12 years. (It should be noted that she receved her advance degrees from Temple University in addition to attaining five areas of teaching certification).

She is a member of Links of America; the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, FWO(For Women Only), an alumnus of Jack and Jills of America, and a very active member of the Mt. Zion UMC in Landside, NJ.

Ruby retired from Temple in 2011, but currently teaches there one day per week. She has embarked on a new life career. She has become an entrepreneur and has vows to "Hat the world"!!! She has a hat business and subcribes to the motto that hats must be worn with "Hatitude!"

Ruby has been married to George A. Peters for 42 successful years. They renewed their union two years ago at the Mansion in Voorhees, NJ. She and George graduated from Bartram in the January Class of 1963. They have one son, George A. Peters, II. and a niece, Kimberli Harris who they raised from early adolesence.

Ruby remains a very active lady.
