About Me | Let's see... after spending a couple additional years in Anchorage, and still a teenager (I graduated young), I yearned to experience a big city so I made the move to Seattle in '78. My first job (embarrassingly enough) was typesetting erotic novels for a publishing company. Ok, I know... i've heard it all already. I then got a great job working for the best sisters in rock... HEART. I worked as a bookkeeper for the band for a couple years before needing something that pays more, better benefits, etc. I then put in almost 14 years with Pacific Northwest Bell while working part time for Ann & Nancy. (We're not in touch any longer but I still follow their career and attend all their concerts if they're within a 100 mile radius.) While working for the phone company, I obtained a life long dream of earning my Private Pilot's license. I then went to night school ('86 to '90) studying ASL (American Sign Language). My interest was definitely piqued with regard to sign language interpreting. After graduation I interned during my off time for another four years and finally passed my nationals in '94. Since then, I've been self-employed working full time as a certified ASL interpreter as well as teaching ASL and interpreting and continue enjoying every minute of it. In 1996, a movie called 'Twister' was released sparking an obsession, addiction, whatever you want to call it, for storm chasing. I made annual trips to Oklahoma the last two weeks every May (the peak of storm season) to meet other chasers and traverse the midwest from the Canadian border as far south as Mexico looking for severe, tornadic thunderstorms. (Hey, better than the drugs I used to consume!) Yeah, can you believe it? Me? Drugs? I celebrate 30 years clean & sober this September (2016). In 2002, I made the decision to move to Oklahoma (Tulsa)... storm country. The worst weather I witnessed in Seattle was severe drizzle. BORING! Now storms come to me! ASL interpreting and lots of thunderstorms... what could be better? Life is good. Wanna know more? Just ask... Oh, i forgot to mention... I can't believe it's been 40 freakin' years since graduation! I remember fondly all the tremors during school hours and we'd hold bets on the Richter rating when the numbers were announced. Now Oklahoma has become the earthquake capital of the US du...(read more) |
