About Sharon Leslie Meeks
- passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, surrounded by family and friends. She was 40. A native of Atlanta, Georgia and a longtime resident of Mobile, Sharon was a parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church. She was a 1985 graduate of Baker High School and graduated with a degree in Education from the University of South Alabama. Sharon coached soccer and basketball at St. Mary's Catholic School and taught P.E. at Leinkauf Elementary, Elsie Collier Elementary, and Cranford Burns Middle School. She also coached various sports while teaching. First and foremost, Sharon considered herself a teacher. She taught her best lessons by the way she lived, touching many lives in the process. She loved her students. She thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and her pets. She especially loved spending time with her nieces and nephews. Sharon fiercely battled breast cancer for years, but she refused to be defined by it. She will be remembered for her tenacious spirit, her lively sense of humor, and her zest for living. She is survived by her parents, Bill and Sarah "Sadie" Meeks of Mobile; three siblings, Colleen Meeks Clover of Mobile, Heather Meeks Hickox (Patrick) of Fairhope, William Walden Meeks of New York; four nieces and nephews, Jacob Reilly Clover, Kaitlin Grace Clover, Hunter Patrick Hickox and Savannah Elizabeth Hickox. She also leaves behind many dear aunts, uncles and cousins in the U.S. and abroad. Sharon's life was enriched by a myriad of dear and loyal friends who stood by her as her illness progressed. Many friends volunteered countless hours to care for her. In particular, her friends Ingrid Sorensen, Xan Busch and Veronica Duncan cared for her throughout her entire battle with cancer, constantly giving her hope and support along the way. Sharon always said she had the best friends anyone could have. In addition, the excellent staff of Odyssey Hospice Health Care provided compassionate care for Sharon and her family by allowing her to pass away with dignity. She will be missed by all. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church on Monday, May 5, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Animal Rescue Foundation, P.O. Box 50065, Mobile, AL 36605. An online guest book is available at al.com. Arrangements are by RADNEY FUNERAL HOME, 3155 Dauphin St. Ext., Mobile, Alabama.
