What is Stevie Nicks known for?

Stephanie Lynn Nicks, more renowned as Stevie Nicks, is a lauded American singer and songwriter born on May 26, 1948, in Phoenix, Arizona, U.S. Her illustrious career in music, spanning from 1966 till the present, was kick-started by her partnership with Lindsey Buckingham, resulting in the album 'Buckingham Nicks'. Though the album wasn't a great success, it led to the duo joining the legendary band Fleetwood Mac in 1975. Nicks' knack for songwriting significantly contributed to Fleetwood Mac becoming one of the best-selling music acts of all time, with more than 120 million records sold worldwide.

Nicks' influence on Fleetwood Mac's sound is clearly evident in their widely acclaimed album 'Rumours,' which is certified 20× platinum in the U.S. Despite her commitment to Fleetwood Mac, Nicks embarked on a successful solo career in 1981, releasing the studio album 'Bella Donna,' which topped the Billboard 200 and achieved multiplatinum status. She has released a combined total of fifteen studio albums, eight solo and seven with Fleetwood Mac, selling a total of 65 million certified copies in the U.S. alone.

Recognized as the 'Reigning Queen of Rock and Roll' by Rolling Stone, Nicks was also named one of the 100 Greatest Songwriters and Singers of All Time. Her songs like 'Landslide,' 'Rhiannon,' and 'Dreams' with Fleetwood Mac, along with her solo hit 'Edge of Seventeen,' have been included in Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. She holds the distinction of being the first woman to be inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame—first as a member of Fleetwood Mac in 1998, and then as a solo artist in 2019.

Throughout her career, Nicks has received numerous accolades for her outstanding contributions to music. As a solo artist, she received eight Grammy Award nominations and two American Music Award nominations. With Fleetwood Mac, she won a Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1978 for 'Rumours.' Furthermore, her albums 'Fleetwood Mac,' 'Rumours,' and 'Bella Donna' were included in the 'Greatest of All Time Billboard 200 Albums' chart.

Stevie Nicks was born in Good Samaritan Hospital, Phoenix, Arizona. She developed a love for fairy tales and singing as a child, helped by her grandfather, and got her nickname "Stevie" due to her toddler pronunciation of her own name. She attended Arcadia High School in California, further nurturing her passion for arts and music and paving her way to stardom.
