Mirai Nagasu

National champion and Olympic figure skater, attended Arcadia High School for two years.

What is Mirai Nagasu known for?

Born in Montebello, California, Mirai Aileen Nagasu found notoriety as an American figure skater. She attended Arcadia High School in her youth, exemplifying her talent both in education and athletics.

From her early years, Nagasu showed immense potential. Her parents owned a successful sushi restaurant in Arcadia which offered her a rich cultural background, being immigrants from Japan. Nagasu was raised in an environment that combined both American and Japanese cultures.

Taking to the ice rink, she had a vibrant career, spanning from 1998 to 2020. She etched her name in history as a 2018 Olympic Games team event bronze medalist, medaled thrice at the Four Continents Championships, and also was a two-time World Junior medalist. As a testament to her performance, she received the U.S. national medal seven times.

Her achievements go beyond medals. In 2008, Nagasu became the youngest woman since Tara Lipinski in 1997 to win the U.S. senior ladies' title, and the second-youngest in history at the time. This remarkable feat was followed by another when she became the first woman since Joan Tozzer in 1937 and 1938 to win the junior and senior national titles in consecutive years.

Adding to her repertoire of accomplishments, Nagasu represented the United States at the 2010 Winter Olympics at the age of 16, placing 4th in the ladies' event. In 2017, she successfully landed the difficult triple Axel jump for the first time in an international competition at the 2017 CS U.S. Classic. Subsequently, in the 2018 Olympics, she became the first American ladies' singles skater to land a triple Axel at the Olympics, and the third woman from any country to do so. This achievement also made her the first senior ladies skater ever to land eight triple jumps cleanly in international competition.
