What is Mike Saxon known for?

Mike Saxon, born on July 10, 1962 in Whittier, California, is a renowned American football player. Known for his skills as a punter, Saxon's career took off from Arcadia High School in Arcadia, California, where he also played as a wide receiver and a defensive back.

After completing high school, Saxon progressed to San Diego State University where he was the starter punter. Despite facing some challenges, he managed to regain his position and set an impressive record with an 80-yard punt. By the end of his college football journey, he had broken school records for punting average per season and in a single game, which led to his honorable-mention All-American and second-team All-WAC honors. Recognizing his contributions, Pasadena City College inducted him into their Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.

In his professional career, Saxon's talent was first recognized by the Detroit Lions who selected him in the 1984 NFL Draft. He later signed with the Arizona Outlaws before finally joining the Dallas Cowboys as a free agent in 1985. In addition to the Cowboys, he also played for the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings during his NFL career. Saxon's crowning achievement was winning Super Bowl XXVII with the Dallas Cowboys.

Throughout his professional career, Saxon played 172 games, making 813 punts with a punting average of 41.7 yards. This is a testament to his remarkable skills, consistency, and resilience.
