Putnam County Grad Earns Academic Award

Clarksville, Ark.-Former Putnam County softball standout Julie Wilkinson was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar-Athlete award, it was announced by NFCA Executive Director Lacy Baker last week.
Wilkinson, a sophomore third baseman/catcher at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark., started in 32 games for the Lady Eagles last season and hit .274. Wilkinson collected 26 hits in her freshman campaign and owned a .951 fielding percentage. The Unionville, Mo., native owns a 3.61 grade point average and is a mathematics major. She is a member of the American Southwest Conference All-Academic Team.
To qualify for the award, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.5 gpa during the 2007-2008 academic year.
