Service description Served aboard the USS Saginaw LST-1188 as a Hull Maint. Tech. (welder, pipe fitter, firefighter). Cruised to the Mediterranean Sea twice and to the Caribbean islands many times. An amazing time for a young man from the Great Plains. |

Service description Served 14 1/2 months on the DMZ in Korea. Sent to Korean Language School in order to work with 2,200 Korean Civilians employed by the US Govt. in the 2nd Infantry Division. Received Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Metal, Overseas Metal, Expert with Rifle and 45 cal Handgun. Had military drivers license for everything from 1/4 ton jeep to 52 ton M-60 tank. Promoted to Sgt in 15 months in service. |
