Fundraising for Naming of Buil
posted Oct 03, 2008
Last May I saw an article in the Palm Beach Post of local residents from the armed services that died for our country in Iraq. There was a picture of Ryan James Sorensen in the paper. This is what was listed in the Palm Beach Post, Monday May 26, 2008.
Ryan James Sorensen
26, Boca Raton: Marines
Killed November 6, 2005 in Husaybah
Small-arms fire struck Sorensen while he was leading a three-man team near the Syria border in northern Iraq.
He was born in Wisconsin and grew up in Boca Raton, graduating from Boca Raton High School in 1998.
"He told me, "I can't lead people in that environment unless I've been in that environment."
- Jim Sorensen, his father
I am a parent for two wonderful boys that attend Boca Raton High School. As a volunteer for our school I have seen what a huge difference our school makes in our children's lives and why we have earned the five star rating repeatedly.
Our school is presently accepting donations for a naming campaign throughout the school. The money raised would be used strictly for student scholarships, high performing students, economically disadvantaged students, student leaders and facility upgrades. Everything is up for grabs to be named. Prices range from $1,000 (for a planter) to $1,000,000 (for the stadium). The names will last for the duration of the structure (usually over 40 years). Those who secure naming donors will be permitted to identify a Boca High organization to receive 10% of the naming donation. (A list is attached for the various donor requested amounts.)
When I read about Ryan in the paper, I could only think what better way to honor his memory than seeing his name on a structure at his ala mata. Ryan sacrifice his life as a Marine to keep us all free. He is the most deserving individual I know that deserves this honor. I just felt my heart pulling me on this idea.
Thank you.
